i feel good about myself
ok guys, i was applying for residential college, and they made me write an essay sayin all this stuff about how i heard about residential college and how i can help the program and how it can help me.. so, here's my short bio and reasons why they should pick me. i think i did a good job of bragging on myself... whatcha think?

Residential College Application
My name is Jonathan Ryan Phillips, and as of May 2006 I will be a graduate of Vilonia High School. I am very excited about attending UCA and having an opportunity to be involved in the Residential College. In high school, I was actively involved in the band and drama programs, and also served as President for the Spanish Club. I was selected twice during my high school career for the Arkansas All-State Band, and once as the Most Outstanding Musician at Dixie Band Camp held at UCA. This coming summer, I will serve as a captain for DBC. Especially in the band and drama departments, I have always put forth the most effort I could, as I try to do in everything in which I am involved. I plan on majoring in music while at UCA, and I know that my hard work must intensify in order to succeed.
I think the Residential College at UCA could help me a great deal. With being a music major, I understand that I will be very busy, and I know that having some of my classes close to my room would serve as a huge help to my busy schedule. Also, having people in my classes that are so near my room would help me keep on track in my classes, and I would be more than willing to help those around me as well.
Featured on the HRC website is a Residential College band that I am very interested in being involved with. Music is a huge part of my life and getting the opportunity to share it with those around me would be spectacular. I also think that the volunteer work the Residential Colleges are involved in is a very effective community service program. For years I have spent many afternoons at the band room volunteering to teach younger kids their music. It really makes me feel special knowing that I've given the kids something that will help them out later on, even if it is not related to music. It also makes me a better musician and teacher learning from the mistakes I see them make.
Also featured on your website, is your involvement in intramural activities. It has always been a goal of mine to participate in these activities, even if I may not be the most talented athlete. I think these activities are a great way to increase student unity and a great way to socialize with others that does not involve any illegal activities.
I first heard about Hughes and State Residential Colleges when a friend told me about them earlier this school year. He said it would be a great help us with our schoolwork and would also get us involved in the campus and campus activities. That convinced me to check it out for myself, and became quite interested after researching the website. I am very impressed with the program and can not wait to get as involved as possible.
Five to ten years from now I hope to be involved in grad school. The perfect world would have me attending the University of North Texas, but my eyes may be opened to a better choice throughout college. Maybe I will have met that “special someone” everyone tells me about during college, but again-- we're talking the perfect world. I could not be happier if one day I ended up teaching music for a living, and would be floored if I was able to perform for a living. The future is something that I look forward to a great deal, and I believe that the Residential College is the best choice to help me achieve these goals.
The Residential College system can be a big help to me as I enter the next stage of my life. I know that UCA will be a big change from Vilonia High School, considering that the campus alone has 5 times the students as my town has citizens. The Residential College program will serve as a very nice transition between these two different worlds. Involvement is also a big deal to me, as I like to see the things I do have success, and I would love to be involved in the activities that the Residential College offers. I know I can be a valuable asset to the Residential College, and know that it can be an equally valuable asset to my success at UCA. Thank you very much for your time, and for the great program you offer.
